A new canal lock gate swinging in the breeze

The British Waterways gang returned to Lock 7 today, apparently they’d been waiting for new lock gates to turn up. Tut, tut, there I was thinking they’d all gone off to spend a week on Facebook.

So this came as a surprise! Taken from our jetty, my fingers froze up, and so did the camera. But it was worth it, these are of the second gate…

Crane loaded up, but nothing to see yet…

Ah there it is beginning to appear above the hedge…

WOW…

012

Can hardly see the wood for the trees… (Groan)

Positioned above the lock…

Going down…

033

And down…

035

Don’t forget the lock arm…

OK, it’s up to you guys on the ground now…

Uh Oh. Meanwhile just 25 yards away from the lock gate site. More problems on the Wigan to Southport single track railway line. That’s the one with the not supersonic train...

Whoa, slow down,, even 15mph (max speed limit here) is too fast when there’s a WIP…

And to compliment each other nicely, the British Waterways guys were sporting green luminous jackets. While the railway gang were dressed up in orange ones. Very colourful indeed, they clashed a bit but I guess it’s only a woman who’d notice that…
~~~
Got photos of Tony’s “Roger Fuller” Tug Boat and its Gardner 150hp engine tomorrow for anyone who likes that kind of thing.
Alas, “Tony the Mop” is no more, he’s “Tugboat Tony” from now on, he he…
