Summer in April?

First thing this morning someone came past us beta testing their lifeboat, ahead of the game in compliance with the new H&S regulations…

Then a tractor went past, it was Farmer Giles ironing his field, never mind the rest, just one sleeve will do…

So we set sail this afternoon further along the Rufford canal on the way to Tarleton. it sort of goes through a curly whirly effect, a series of bends with 3 x 90 degree turns, is this the end of the line below? Nope, just another corner.

A grand prix circuit with a difference…

In places it looks more like a river…

It’s so quiet on here today, we only passed one other canal boat, and we were followed by these two daft beggars who stupidly overtook us on the outside as we slowed down on a bend. (Well I did liken it to a grand prix circuit I suppose).

But what a couple of fools they were, I was steering at the time and heard one of them hit the side with his oar, just as the back end of TT was coming round. They only got out the way in the nick of time. Oh, and just to blow one’s own trumpet for a moment, it was thanks to my "expert" boating skills they didn’t get crushed.

Coming towards a very deceptive bridge that isn’t very popular with anyone for obvious reasons…

As if the angle of the bridge isn’t difficult enough, look at the angle of the wall on the other side…

047

Coming through! With the wall visible on the right, it’s closer to the boat than it looks from the bow…

049

Catkins galore a bit further on, ah…

So basically what we did today was “carry on boating” to the windy hole before Tarleton. I had my first play about with the bow thruster and turned the boat round on a sixpence, wow it’s so responsive! First time I’ve done a 360 boat turn on my own…

What a wally, she even found time to pose, but those half mast pants don’t do any favours…

So we came back along the same route (well there isn’t a different one) and we’re parked up in the same spot again overnight – only facing the other way.

It’s hard to believe on such a gorgeous day we’ve had a good two miles of canal all to ourselves… Wonderful… Soothes the soul…
